Medicaid Program in Torrance

Torrance residents can apply for Medi-Cal for seniors, which is California's Medicaid program. As an entitlement program, its services are available to all state residents who qualify, and the program directly pays the cost of assisted living, nursing home care and other senior services. There are no waiting lists or caps to receive Medi-Cal, but some of its waiver programs, listed below, are subject to restrictions.

The Medi-Cal program for seniors has tiered income requirements. If your income is below $1,012 a month for a single person or $1,372 for a married couple, you are eligible to receive all of Medi-Cal's services for free. If your income is higher, you may still be eligible to receive services but will likely have to chip in on the cost. The amount you have to pay versus what Medi-Cal pays is based on your income.

Medi-Cal also has asset limits. Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Medi-Cal Waiver

The Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waiver helps pay for the cost of long-term care. You can apply it both to care received in-home and to care received in an assisted living facility. Specific services available include private-duty nursing, home health aides, family training, habilitation services and respite care. The Assisted Living Waiver Program helps Torrance residents pay for services such as meal preparation, housekeeping and laundry, social services, recreation and round-the-clock staff. To qualify, you must have a demonstrated need for a specific type of care, and you must meet the program's income requirements, which include making less than $1,242 for a single applicant and $1,682 for a married couple. In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) provides support that enables seniors in Torrance to remain in their own home.
