Redlands, CA, is a picturesque city known for its late Victorian buildings, acres of orange orchards and stunning views of the often snow-capped San Bernardino Mountains. Seniors, who comprise just over 14% of the city’s 74,000 residents, enjoy a significantly more favorable cost of living than average and one of California’s more senior-friendly climates. Additionally, the Redlands Senior Services Division manages an array of welcoming programs and services, and San Bernardino’s Department of Aging and Adult Services operates extensive support functions for the city’s older residents.

The nonprofit Redlands Community Hospital provides excellent care and is particularly admired for its short-term rehabilitation services and joint replacement surgeries. There are several other hospitals within 15 minutes in neighboring cities, such as Loma Linda and Colton, and numerous assisted living facilities within Redlands.

Data published in the 2021 Genworth Cost of Care Survey reveal the city’s median fee for assisted living to be $5,250 per month, which is consistent with California’s average. However, the fee is $750 per month more than the national average and $1,250 more than the nearby city of Riverside.

Note: Data for Redlands was unavailable, so data for the nearest city, Los Angeles, was used instead.
