Kitchen staff prepares three nutritiously balanced meals per day with snacks and beverages available around the clock.

Oak Park Manor is a family-owned facility where residents receive care based on their individual needs and preferences. The owners of Oak Park Manor have extensive experience in geriatric care and are former owners of a wellness center in Germany. Services at Oak Park Manor include assistance with nonmedical personal hygiene tasks, basic grooming, meals and housekeeping. Residents also receive medication reminders, and there is staff on duty to help with their needs 24 hours per day.

Avila Senior Living at Downtown SLO

Floor plans at this pet-friendly facility include studio and one-bedroom units with kitchenettes, individual climate controls, cable, Wi-Fi and washers and dryers. Some units are equipped with window boxes where residents can grow their favorite flowers. Services include weekly housekeeping, daily bed making and trash removal. There are sunny courtyard gardens where residents can relax and visit with each other, read a good book or simply soak up the sun while listening to the birds sing.

The Oaks at Nipomo

One of the things we liked best about The Oaks at Nipomo was the range of lifelong learning opportunities available to residents. Courses in a diverse range of topics are taught by visiting professors from the local community college, staff, members of the community and even by residents themselves. There is also a variety of resident-led clubs to join that cover interests such as travel, golf, wine, photography and bird-watching.

Merrill Gardens at Santa Maria

With a resident capacity of 242, Merrill Gardens at Santa Maria is the largest assisted living facility on our top ten list. The community offers plenty of lifestyle amenities, such as an outdoor pool, walking paths, an on-site wellness center and bright, well-landscaped outdoor courtyards with plenty of comfortable seating areas. There's even an outdoor fireplace on one of the spacious patios. Indoor amenities include a billiards room, a cozy fireside room with a grand piano and a restaurant-style dining room that features anytime dining.

The resident capacity at Garden House is 15, making it the smallest assisted living community on our top 10 list. The activity calendar features chair yoga, adult coloring, music, bingo and one-on-one activities. There is a garden created by students of nearby California Polytechnic State University as a community service project. Residents receive nonmedical personal care, including weekly manicures. The culinary staff prepares three meals per day from scratch.

Santa Maria Terrace offers studio apartments and companion suites that residents are welcome to share with their pets.
