Medicaid Program in Melbourne

Low-income Melbourne residents can receive a variety of benefits through the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program. Created in 2011 and fully implemented in 2013, the SMMC program consists of three components:

  • Managed Medical Assistance (MMA): MMA covers many standard health insurance benefits such as doctor visits, hospital care, and prescription drugs.
  • Long-Term Care (LTC): LTC provides a myriad of services including care in an assisted living facility, nursing home care, respite care and physical therapy.
  • Dental: All Medicaid recipients are required to enroll in a dental program.

Before receiving benefits, applicants must meet several criteria:

  • Be a legal resident of Florida
  • Age 65 or older
  • Display a need for a nursing home level of care as determined by CARES
  • Meet income and asset requirements

For the SMMC program, monthly income for an individual cannot exceed $2,313 a month and $4,626 a month for a couple. Total assets cannot exceed $2,000 and $3,000 for an individual or couple, respectively. Other Financial Assistance Programs in Melbourne

Optional State Supplement (OSS)

Melbourne residents on an SSI-related Medicaid program can receive assistance with assisted living facility care costs through the Optional State Supplement (OSS). The Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative (ADI) provides caregivers of individuals living with Alzheimer’s and related conditions with respite care, training, and other support services. Respite services include in-home care, adult day care and extended care up to 30 days. Case management, specialized medical equipment, and support groups are a few of the additional services available.

Community Care for the Elderly (CCE)

Seniors can receive a wide variety of care through community-based services in the Community Care for the Elderly (CCE) program. Seniors must be at least 60 years old and undergo a comprehensive assessment to confirm functional impairment.
