Financial Assistance Programs in Lantana

>Medicaid Program in Lantana

Senior citizens living in Lantana can access financial assistance via Florida’s Medicaid Managed Long-Term Care Program. In 2014, this program replaced all of Florida’s Home and Community-Based Services waivers. It pays for a wide range of medical costs for seniors who need long-term care, whether they reside at home or within a long-term care facility. Covered costs include personal care and assisted living services, skilled nursing services, meal delivery and preparation, non-emergency transportation and in some cases, home modifications for those receive their care at home. Some participants in the program are given the opportunity to direct their own care, provided they’re capable of doing so.

This program is an entitlement program, which means that all applicants who are qualified will receive coverage with no waiting period. To qualify for coverage, applicants must meet the following financial requirements:

  • Single applicants must have an income at or below $2,250 per month and no more than $2,000 in countable assets
  • Married applicants who are applying for Medicaid together must have an income at or below $4,500 per month and no more than $3,000 in countable assets

In Florida, all forms of income, including social security, are counted toward Medicaid eligibility. Some assets are exempt, including the applicant’s home, provided it’s not worth more than $572,000. Other exemptions include a single vehicle, household furnishings and personal belongings such as clothing.

Seniors who don’t meet the program’s financial requirements yet have medical expenses that they’re unable to manage alone should meet with a professional Medicaid planner, who may be able to assist them with reallocating funds and assets to help them meet the program’s requirements. To apply for this program or to learn more about eligibility requirements and the application process, seniors or their representatives can call the Florida Department of Elder Affairs at 1-800-96-ELDER.
