The amenities in this facility's outdoor living spaces caught our eye right away. Featured is a gazebo where residents can get shelter from the sun or rain while enjoying the view, as well as raised garden beds where residents can grow their favorite plants. Unlike other facilities in the area, Oaks at Stockbridge doesn't have a size or weight limit for pets; however, residents must be capable of caring for all of their pets' needs. Floor plans include studio and one-bedroom units.

Oaks at Eagles Landing provides four levels of assisted living services, designed to help ensure that residents get the appropriate care they need while maintaining as much of their independence as possible. There is an on-site wellness center, group transportation to local stores, off-site restaurants and special community events, a range of on-site social activities and a beauty and barbershop where residents can get their hair cut and styled. Besides its convenient location just blocks off of Interstate 75, what we like best about Golden Crest at Eagle's Landing is the facility's classic Southern architecture, starting with graceful exterior columns and continued indoors with sweeping staircases and ornate chandeliers. The well-stocked library provides a cozy spot for reading, and the restaurant-style dining room serves three nutritiously balanced and delicious meals per day.

This award-winning facility has studio, one- and two-bedroom floor plans with kitchenettes, individually controlled thermostats and safety features such as emergency response buttons and grab bars in the bathrooms. Each resident is also given a personal emergency alert pendant. Companion suites are available, and residents are welcome to share accommodations with their small pets. There is an elegant sitting room with seating areas clustered around a fireplace, a grand piano off to the side and a well-tended garden with courtyards and walking paths outside.

We liked the thoughtful attention to detail at The Palms of Lake Spivey, such as the comfortable seating areas in the hallways where residents could relax and socialize with each other or with visitors, the spacious covered front porches with rocking chairs and the carefully tended hanging ferns and outdoor planters. Other outdoor amenities include a swimming pool and a barbecue area. Activities at this faith-based community include Bible study, evening meditation sessions, ice cream socials and happy hours.

This pet-friendly facility has studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments and companion suites. We liked the community gardens, secluded, peaceful courtyard and the outdoor walking trails. Residents are served three healthy and flavorful meals per day. There is an on-site library and game room, and live entertainment is scheduled on a regular basis. Residents can also participate in group outings to community attractions and activities. A variety of fitness classes are available for varying ability and interest levels.

The Gardenias is situated in a secluded, serene setting surrounded by the Crystal Lake Golf Course, making it a great option for golf enthusiasts and those with an appreciation for natural beauty. Private and semiprivate rooms with private baths, double closets and views of the well-landscaped grounds are available. Common spaces include a bright sunroom, a room for special events, a movie theater and a snack and lounge space.

What we liked best about Sunrise of Decatur was the facility's dining program. The kitchen staff uses fresh, local ingredients accented with natural spices and herbs whenever possible, and everything is prepared from scratch. The chefs hold regular meetings with residents to determine their individual needs and preferences. Residents have the option to order room service and to invite friends and family to join them for meals. There are weekly happy hours on Fridays.

On-site amenities at Summerset Assisted Living include a wellness center, activity center, sunroom, restaurant-style dining room, salon and barbershop and a chapel. Living suites are equipped with safety devices such as voice-to-voice call systems, spacious closets, kitchenettes and private bathrooms with senior-friendly safety features. The landscaped courtyard has plenty of comfortable seating areas, a goldfish pond, birdhouses and a water fountain. Guests are welcome to join residents for meals and to spend the night.

Christian City Assisted Living is a faith-based facility with single-occupancy standard and deluxe studio apartments. Each unit has a locking door, private bathrooms with safety bars in the showers, emergency call systems, cable TV, Wi-Fi and telephone connections for those who want to have landline service hooked up. There are security cameras on each hall and guard rails along the corridors for an extra layer of safety. This is a pet-free facility, making it a good choice for seniors who suffer from allergies.
