We liked this pet-friendly facility because of the effort and attention put into making sure that residents have a diverse range of opportunities to remain socially engaged. There are regular live performances, group activities such as picnics in the park and shopping excursions, numerous resident-led interest groups and twice-weekly happy hours. Spacious companion suites are available as well as private studios, one-bedroom units and two-bedroom units. Units are equipped with kitchenettes or full kitchens, as well as WiFi and cable. Keystone Villa also has an active residents council.

Greenfield of Perkiomen Valley

We included Greenfield of Perkiomen Valley on our top 10 list because of the seamless combination of old-school charm and 21st-century amenities designed to promote comfort and accessibility for older persons. Originally built as a schoolhouse in the 1920s, the facility still retains significant architectural character. Residents enjoy abundant natural lighting, traditionally decorated common areas and three outdoor courtyards. Pets must be pre-approved and have recent certificates of good health from a veterinarian.

This facility earned its place on our top 10 list because of its hillside setting among mature trees and extensive, attractively landscaped grounds. The restaurant-style dining room serves three nutritious and delicious meals per day, and there is a cafe and lounge available for casual fare. A private dining room with customized catering services is available for residents to host personal celebrations. The full calendar of social, physical and educational options allows residents to stay as busy as they like, but there are also plenty of comfortable community spaces indoors and outdoors for pleasant relaxation.

We particularly loved this facility for its spacious, luxurious apartments. Floor plans include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units equipped with kitchenettes or full kitchens. Some units have private patios or balconies. Each resident has a customized personal care plan designed to meet individual needs and preferences. Guests are welcome at mealtimes and to spend the night, and there's a private party space available for residents to entertain family and friends. There are private courtyards, garden spaces and plenty of outdoor walking trails where residents and their furry friends can enjoy fresh air and exercise.

Amity Place

Amity Place offers spacious, pet-friendly studio and one-bedroom apartments with plush carpeting, kitchenettes and generous closets and storage space. Safety features include a sprinkler system throughout, illuminated doorways and smoke detectors. Transportation is available for medical appointments, and there's a licensed nurse on staff 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Medication management is available, and the menu in the restaurant-style dining room is supervised by a certified dietician.

Our favorite aspect of this pet-friendly facility is that everything is on one floor, eliminating the need for navigating elevators or climbing stairs. The restaurant-style dining room provides three delicious and nutritionally balanced meals per day, as well as snacks and beverages. Residents also have the option of preparing meals in their in-room kitchenettes, visiting the on-site bistro or requesting room service from the staff. All units have large, sunny windows that let in plenty of natural light. On-site physical, speech and occupational therapy are available. There is a community van for scheduled transportation to medical and dental appointments and for planned group outings to local restaurants, parks and community attractions and events.
