The 10 Best Assisted Living Facilities in Manhattan, NY

Image 1

More than 1.6 million individuals call Manhattan home, and more than 16% of these residents, or about 269,000 individuals, are aged 65 or older. Thanks to this large senior population, Manhattan boasts many senior-friendly resources, including senior centers and social clubs.

Arts and cultural opportunities in Manhattan abound, making the area ideal for seniors who want to explore, learn and engage with the community. The area is home to Broadway plays, Carnegie Hall and museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Additionally, the New York City area features some of the nation’s best healthcare facilities, including New York Presbyterian Hospital and Mount Sinai hospital, which can accommodate seniors in case of a medical emergency.

The cost of living in Manhattan is high, totaling more than three times more than the national average. As a result, assisted living expenses are also higher than average, reaching nearly $7,000 a month. This monthly rate is significantly higher than neighboring New York cities such as Kingston, where assisted living expenses are $4,100 a month, and Binghamton, with rates at $5,700 a month. While assisted living expenses in Manhattan are higher, living in Manhattan gives seniors access to the vibrant cultural scene that only New York City can deliver.

Note: Specific senior care costs for Manhattan aren’t available, so data from the New York City area has been used instead.
