We also loved its location on the water and the views of the Intracoastal Waterway. Bloom at Hilton Head

This pet-friendly family-owned and operated facility offers studios, one-bedroom units and companion suites. Each unit is equipped with a kitchenette or kitchen, cable and emergency call systems. On-site amenties include Wii Sports, book clubs, cards and board games, arts and crafts and gardening. There's a TV room as well as an on-site library. Residents can get their hair done at the on-site beauty salon/barbershop, see a movie at the on-site movie theater or visit with friends while relaxing on the screened-in porch.

Village Cove Assisted Living

We liked this facility because of the resident capacity of just 42 that nonetheless doesn't skimp on services and amenities. We particularly liked the facility's specialized intervention programs, which include weight management, balance/fall prevention management and nutrition tracking. There's an enclosed outdoor courtyard and walking paths throughout the attractively landscaped grounds. Village Cove also promotes a high level of family engagement with monthly themed dinners following happy hours in the homelike living room.

The Pines at Hilton Head

Floor plans at The Pines at Hilton Head include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units and companion suites. Units are equipped with kitchenettes, cable and internet. Guest parking is available, and guests are welcome to join residents for meals and to spend the night. There's also a designated party space where residents can entertain family and friends. Scheduled transportation is available for appointments and shopping, and there's a security gate surrounding the facility. The Pines at Hilton Head does not accept pets, making it a good option for those who are allergic to animals.

Vineyard Bluffton Assisted Living and Memory Care

What we liked best about this facility was the wide range of activities available to residents, providing them with opportunities to enjoy their hobbies as well as to cultivate new interests. Pickleball, group outings, resident-led special interest clubs, arts and crafts, wine tastings and live entertainment are regularly featured on the activities calendar. There's also a variety of exercise classes, an outdoor courtyard designed for outdoor enjoyment and a wellness and fitness center.

The exterior facade of Helena Place exudes classic Southern charm that's further enhanced by the facility's location right next to the Bird Sanctuary and Nature Preserve, providing residents with the opportunity to enjoy nature walks simply by stepping out their front doors. On-site activities include daily exercise programs, regular social events and community outings, religious services, visits from local schoolchildren, arts and crafts, movies and live entertainment. Floor plans include studio and one-bedroom carpeted units. All units are equipped with kitchenettes, spacious closets and storage areas and illuminated doorways. This facility provides spacious apartments in a variety of floor plans with full kitchens, washers and dryers and private patios and balconies. Along with the overall resort-like atmosphere of this facility, we liked the on-site pub where residents gather for happy hour and to enjoy live performances, the billiard and game rooms and the well-stocked on-site library. There's also an on-site salon/barbershop, a reservable private dining room where residents can enjoy personal celebrations with their family and friends and an outdoor courtyard with comfortable seating areas.

Residents of this facility can choose between studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. Units are equipped with kitchenettes, cable and are internet-enabled. The restaurant-style dining room serves three delicious nutritiously balanced meals per day, and anytime dining is available for residents who prefer nontraditional mealtimes. We liked that this facility offers psychiatric care, has a nurse on staff, offers hospice services and has an on-site pharmacy.

Oaks at Salem Road

With a resident capacity of 49, Oaks at Salem Road is one of the smaller facilities on our list. We really liked that everything is on one level, making it a great choice for those who struggle with navigating elevators and stairs. There are five floor plans to choose from that range from studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. Companion suites are also available. Each resident is issued an emergency call pendant.
