Aurora Place
What we like best about Aurora Place is the attention to detail given to everyday environmental amenities, such as plush carpeting in the private living spaces, individual mailboxes, illuminated entryways to each unit, spacious closets and storage areas and attractive window treatments. A sprinkler system throughout the facility adds an extra layer of protection. Floor plans include studio and one-bedroom apartments with kitchens or kitchenettes and in-room cable.

Visions Assisted Living of Apache Junction
This facility has a resident capacity of 56, which we feel is a good balance between being lost in a big crowd and having limited possibilities for friends and activity partners. Unlike many other assisted living communities, Visions Assisted Living of Apache Junction is not pet-friendly, making it a good option for those who are allergic to pet dander. Floor plans include private and shared suites with individual climate controls, walk-in showers and cable/Wi-Fi.

One of the reasons we decided to include Brookdale Baywood on our top 10 list is because we were impressed with the facility's B-fit program. This program was designed using the latest research on senior physical fitness and offers fitness opportunities for all ability levels. There are also outdoor walking paths where residents and their furry friends can enjoy fresh air and outdoor exercise. Other lifestyle amenities offered by this facility include customized care plans and a Personal Solutions Program, which allows residents and their families to have personal and household items such as grooming products, paper products and hearing aid batteries delivered to their doors.

Brookdale North Mesa
We like Brookdale North Mesa's convenient setting in a residential area that's close enough to the local business district to allow residents easy access to shopping, medical and dental practices and cultural attractions. This facility is pet-friendly with plenty of spacious common areas, including patios with comfortable seating and a fireside living room. The diverse range of on-site activities includes wine tastings, dance parties, wellness walks and poker games.

BeeHive Homes of Gilbert
BeeHive Home of Gilbert is the smallest facility on our top 10 list. With a resident capacity of just 26, we felt that this facility is a good choice for those who prefer a more intimate residential environment. Residents receive three dietitian-approved, home-cooked meals per day, with snacks and beverages available. All rooms are equipped with ADA-compliant bathrooms, 50-inch TVs with DirectTV and Wi-Fi. This facility happily accommodates couples.

Acoya Mesa
Floor plans at Acoya Mesa include studio and one-bedroom apartments with upscale finishes, walk-in showers, private balconies or patios and spacious storage closets. What we like best about this facility, though, is the on-site dog park where well-behaved pets can frolic off-leash. The on-site fitness center offers daily exercise classes, and the outdoor raised beds are available for use by residents to grow their favorite plants.

Arbor Rose Senior Care
Arbor Rose Senior Care offers studio units with spacious closets and private ADA-compliant bathrooms with walk-in showers equipped with built-in benches. Services include scheduled transportation, weekly housekeeping and customized personal care such as assistance with bathing, routine grooming and getting dressed. There is a well-stocked library on-site and attractive patio and garden areas where residents can enjoy a good book or magazine or visit with friends while having a picnic. Pets are not accepted at this facility.

Heritage Village Assisted Living
Heritage Village Assisted Living offers one-level living, making it a good possibility for seniors with mobility and/or balance challenges who would prefer not to have to navigate steps and elevators. Our favorite part of this facility, though, is the outdoor living space. There are flower beds along the entryway, benches along the outdoor walking paths, plots of vegetable and herb gardening and, best of all, mature fruit trees, grape arbors and a raspberry patch. The patio features gas barbecues and drinking fountains.
