Farmington is a small city of just over 18,000 residents located approximately 58 miles to the south of downtown St. Louis. Close to 3,300 of its residents are aged 65 or above, and these seniors can benefit from the area’s cleaner air and water, as well as the generally affordable cost of living and low violent crime rate. Due to the passing of Senate Bill 190, seniors throughout Missouri will receive 100% deductions on income from Social Security and certain retirement benefits as of 2024, regardless of their annual income.
The city’s own Parkland Health Center is a full-service hospital with 130 beds, an emergency department and numerous specialty clinics that offer cardiac and diabetes care, rehabilitation and physical therapy.
In addition to the low cost of living for all residents and the tax breaks for seniors specifically, assisted living in Farmington is also relatively affordable. According to the Genworth Cost of Care Survey, the average monthly rate for assisted living is $2,538. This cost is around $500 less than the norm for Missouri and almost $2,000 below the national average.
