Moore is a residential community of 63,000 people in a suburban district of Oklahoma City. Roughly 13% of the city’s residents are seniors aged 65 and over, and the city has a lot to offer to older adults as they settle into retirement. Moore has generally mild spring and fall seasons, with warm summers and snow in the winter.

The cost of living in Oklahoma is generally lower than it is in the rest of the nation, but the Oklahoma City region tends to be near the high end of the state for costs. Common living costs in Moore are around 14% lower than the national average, but the price seniors pay for health services is more than 6% higher. Oklahoma can be an extremely welcoming place for seniors on a fixed budget. The state exempts all Social Security and allows a $10,000 exemption on other types of retirement income, such as 401(k) payments, from state-level taxes.

Genworth’s 2021 Cost of Care Survey doesn’t have figures for the cost of assisted living in Moore, but it does list equivalent price data for the surrounding Oklahoma City region. Seniors in this area pay an average of $4,800 a month for assisted living. This is $300 more than the national average of $4,500, but the average in the rest of Oklahoma is just $3,855.
