Eagan is a suburban community in the southern reaches of Minneapolis, where over 68,000 people live in a collection of family homes and low-rise apartment blocks. More than 14% of the area’s residents are seniors aged 65 and over, where a remarkably low crime rate and very mild summers encourage them to spend time outdoors in the city’s many parks and green spaces.

While Eagan has a higher overall cost of living than both Minnesota and the national average, some local costs relevant to seniors are available at a significant discount. Health services are about 15% less expensive in Eagan than the national rate. Minnesota does partially tax Social Security income, though seniors may qualify for certain exemptions and deferrals that help keep the costs manageable for older adults on a fixed income.

Genworth’s 2021 Cost of Care Survey doesn’t list prices for long-term care in Eagan, though price data is available for Minneapolis. Here, assisted living costs an average of $5,163 a month. This is more than $600 a month higher than both the national average ($4,500) and the average for Minnesota ($4,508).

Note: Data for Eagan was unavailable, so data for the nearest city, Minneapolis, was used instead.

This guide goes over the top 10 assisted living communities in and around Eagan, in order to help seniors and their families make the right decision about where to settle in.
