Services to Assist Independent Living: Non-Medicaid Support from Texas' Dpt. of Aging and Disability Services

Overview of DADS Services to Assist Independent Living
The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) has several programs designed specifically for the elderly, one of which is a group of services referred to on the whole as Services to Assist Independent Living.  While many of these services are similar to other DADS programs, the specific objective of these services is to help seniors to live independently in their homes.  To that end, services are focused on making home modifications, providing homemaker services, assisting in transportation and offering caregivers respite care.   Some of the services can be consumer directed, meaning the recipient of the services are empowered to choose their own service providers.  Friends and certain family members can be paid for their caregiving assistance.
