Rhode Island SSI Enhanced Assisted Living Program

Overview of the Enhanced Assisted Living Program
Rhode Island's SSI Enhanced Assisted Living Program provides financial assistance to individuals who are eligible for SSI, assessed and found to be in need of the services provided in an assisted living facility.  However, their care requirements cannot be so severe that nursing home care is required.  This program provides an increase in the Supplemental Security Income benefit amount specifically for assisted living room and board costs.

 Assisted Living Program Eligibility
To be eligible for RI's Assisted Living Program, applicants must be at least 65 years of age or disabled and they must be a resident of Rhode Island.  In addition there are functional and financial qualifications.  Functionally, they must require assistance with their activities of daily living but not require the level of care typically provided in a nursing home.  Financially, their monthly income cannot exceed $1212 and their total resources cannot exceed $2,000.

Benefits of the Assisted Living Program
This program helps pay for assisted living costs up to a maximum of $1,212 / month.
