American Kidney Fund

The American Kidney Fund (AKF) provides treatment-related financial assistance to qualified kidney patients. Available funds and eligibility requirements are constantly changing. At the time of writing, three types of grants to kidney patients were being offered.
  1. A Health Insurance Premium Program (HIPP) that pays for Medicare Part B, Medigap and COBRA premiums for dialysis patients who cannot afford the fees.
  2. The Medicare Part D Program, which provides dialysis patients help with the costs of their prescribed medications in the form of a pharmacy benefit card for up to $2,000 per year
  3. Safety Net Grants that provide dialysis patients or kidney transplant recipients financial help for care expenses not covered by health insurance and/or governmental programs.
With all of these programs, patients must provide a documented medical history of their chronic kidney disease and of their financial need.
